UP Centennial Kick Off

My beloved university, University of the Philippines launched with a blast her 100 years of existence with a kick off party on January 8. What a blast, what a party! Yeah!

Okay, it wasn't a party. I wasn't even there the whole day. It's just so thrilling to celebrate the one hundred years of UP. Hanep, pare.

The kick off has a long list of activities for the day. It started with a mass at 9:00 AM in UP Manila. There was a motorcade from Manila to Diliman with the other UP constituents joining the parade along the way. There were skydivers. There were 100 kwitis launched to the air. Centennial Flame was passed around, with a 100-year old alumnus lighting the first torch. Program and celebration.

I got to see a part of the open air concert held in the evening. It was awesome to see the ampitheater filled and overflowing with UP students, alumnus and faculty, and probably even guests. It was a concert of everything - pop music, folk music, weird music, cultural dance, street jazz, and maybe every other performance to showcase the very diverse set of talents of UP students.

Finally, at around 10:00 PM, after the master Mr. Ryan Cayabyab lead the singing of UP Naming Mahal, everybody rised from their seats (or the grass) and cheered for the spectacular fireworks display. Beautiful. Grand. Amazing. Very fitting for a centennial celebration!

Here's our "video coverage" of the fireworks display (about a minute has passed before we got to record it) using Mon's Nokia N90 phone:

I love UP!
