MIT-Mountaineering Club Orienteering Competition
I learned about this from Donald's Multiply site. Somebody might be interested. I don't even know what MIT is. Mapua? Seems fun, but I'm not really the type to join this kind of event. :)

For newbies and those interested to learn more about Orienteering, we will be having an Orienteering Clinic (basic use of map and compass) followed by a Short Orienteering Competition at UP Diliman Campus on July 6,2008, 9am-4pm
WHAT: MIT-MC Cross-Country Orienteering Competition
WHEN: July 13, 2008 Sunday, 8:00am
WHERE: In the periphery of Tagaytay Ridge area. Actual location will be announced one week before the event to ensure fair play and that all competitors face the same conditions of unfamiliarity with every part of the course.
PROFILE: 10 kilometers with 400 meters of total elevation gain,Cross-country Orienteering competition is basically about physical endurance. It will take place in a rural area, mostly forested environment and aims at testing the athlete's ability to make efficient route choices, to read and interpret the map and plan the race for endurance during a long and physically demanding activity. The format emphasises route choices and navigation in rough and demanding terrain. A special element of the Cross-country is the presence of long legs, considerably longer than average leg length. These longer legs may be from 1.5km to 3.5km depending on the terrain type.
ENTRY FEE: Php250.00 per participant. Includes event t-shirt, post race meal and race kits. ( Php350.00 for on-site participants)
TEAM COMPOSITION: Minimum of two person and maximum of four person per team regardless of gender
